Two kinds of logo placeholder
A logo placeholder is either a fake brand logo — an invented name and icon that looks like a real company, for logo strips and mockups — or an empty logo slot, the dashed “your logo here” box in a template header that shows the buyer where their own logo goes. Choose Logo slot as the layout for the second kind; type a word in Brand name to change its label.
What placeholder logos are for
- “Trusted by” and customer strips on landing-page templates and themes, where real client logos can’t be shown yet. The preview under the generator shows six of your logos in a monochrome strip on light and dark backgrounds.
- Wireframes and UI mockups — app headers, login screens, partner directories, marketplace listings.
- Pitch decks and case-study templates before the real brand assets arrive.
- Theme and template demos that are sold or shared, where real companies’ logos would infringe their trademarks.
- Testing upload, crop and display code with logos of different shapes and aspect ratios: wide wordmarks, square icons, stacked lock-ups.
Why not use real company logos in mockups?
Logos are trademarks. Showing a real brand in a template, a theme you sell or a public demo can suggest an endorsement or partnership that doesn’t exist, and brand owners do send takedown notices. Invented names and neutral icons greatly reduce that risk and look just as convincing at the size of a logo strip — though, as with any invented name, one may resemble a real brand by chance.
SVG or PNG?
SVG is vector: it scales to any size, weighs a few hundred bytes, and you can recolour it in a text editor or design tool. Paste the copied SVG code straight into Figma, which turns it into editable layers, or drop the file into Illustrator, Sketch or PowerPoint. The brand name is live text in a common sans-serif font, so each device renders it with its own fonts; convert the text to outlines in your design tool if it must look identical everywhere. PNG is exported at four times the on-screen size with a transparent background — for example about 700 × 220 pixels for a horizontal logo — ready for slides, Canva and tools that don’t accept SVG. Download all saves every logo of the batch on one SVG sheet.
Building a convincing logo strip
- Use one layout for the row — all Icon + name or all Icon only — and give every logo the same height, typically 24 to 40 pixels, with a maximum width of about 140 to 160 pixels so long wordmarks don’t dominate.
- Go monochrome. Real “trusted by” rows are almost always grey or white: pick Monochrome, or switch on the dark background for a dark section.
- Inherit the text colour. In your own HTML, replace the fill colours in the SVG with
currentColorand the logos follow the surrounding text colour in light and dark mode. - Mix name lengths. Six to eight logos of varied widths look far more natural than a perfectly uniform grid.
- Give each logo alt text with the (fictional) company name, and swap every placeholder for a real, approved client logo before launch.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use these logos for free?
Yes, for any purpose, including commercial templates and client mockups, with no attribution. We release the icon shapes into the public domain (CC0), and the names are generated at random.
Can I use a generated logo as my real brand?
We don’t recommend it. An invented name can match a registered trademark by chance, simple geometric marks are already used by many companies, and a mark like that is hard to protect as your own. Use the generator for mockups, and work with a designer and a trademark search for your real brand. This is not legal advice.
Why does the text look different after download?
The SVG keeps the name as live text in a standard sans-serif font, so each device renders it with its own fonts. Download the PNG for an identical look everywhere, or convert the text to outlines in a vector editor.
How is this different from Logoipsum?
Logoipsum is a curated library of ready-made placeholder logos. This page generates new ones on demand, in your colours and with your own name if you like, so a template doesn’t show the same placeholder logos as thousands of others.
How many logos can I generate?
Up to 24 per click, and as many clicks as you like. Each logo downloads as SVG or PNG or copies as SVG code, and the whole batch downloads as one SVG sheet.
