FakecreditcardHow Adyen test cards work
Adyen test cards only work on the test platform: the test Customer Area (ca-test.adyen.com) and the checkout-test.adyen.com endpoints. Unlike most gateways, Adyen expects specific card details. Most cards use expiry 03/2030 and CVC 737, and American Express uses CID 7373. A few cards have their own dates, listed in the table.
Adyen has no dedicated decline cards. To force a result, set paymentMethod.holderName to a trigger value such as DECLINED or NOT_ENOUGH_BALANCE, or send the matching code in additionalData.RequestedTestAcquirerResponseCode. This works with any test card.
If you test server-side without client-side encryption, prefix each field with test_, for example encryptedCardNumber: "test_4111111111111111", encryptedExpiryMonth: "test_03", encryptedExpiryYear: "test_2030" and encryptedSecurityCode: "test_737".
3D Secure 2 test cards
For the text challenge, enter password on the web or 1234 in a native app. Any other value fails the challenge. Some cards only work in the Advanced flow, not with Sessions.

Force a refusal with the holder name
Set paymentMethod.holderName to one of these values (or send the code as additionalData.RequestedTestAcquirerResponseCode) with any test card:

Adyen documents more than 40 trigger values in total, including PIN, withdrawal-limit and contactless cases.
Testing Adyen payments step by step
- Create an API key and client key in your test Customer Area.
- Pay with
4111 1111 1111 1111, expiry 03/2030, CVC 737 to test an authorisation. - Set the holder name to a trigger value to get each refusal reason your app needs to handle.
- Run the 3DS2 cards through Drop-in or Components to test redirect, fingerprint and challenge flows.
- If RevenueProtect blocks test payments, add the test card or shopper details to a trust list.
Common errors and fixes
- Refused with “CVC Declined”
- Use the exact CVC from the table (737, or 7373 for Amex).
- Russian test card is always refused
- Adyen does not process transactions within Russia; that card always fails with error 907.
- No challenge with 3DS2 cards
- If your Dynamic 3DS default rule is “Prefer Not”, set it to Always or send
authenticationData.attemptAuthentication.
