About Diners Club card numbers
Diners Club was founded in New York in 1950 as the first general-purpose charge card: members could pay at many restaurants with one card and settle the bill monthly. Discover Financial Services bought Diners Club International in 2008, and Diners cards now run on the Discover Global Network. Today the brand is most common in corporate travel and in markets such as Latin America, Croatia and parts of Asia.
Diners Club numbers break two common assumptions. Most international Diners cards have 14 digits, grouped 4-6-4 like 3622 720627 1667, and they start with 36, 38 or 300–305. The network allows up to 19 digits, and in the United States and Canada Diners Club cards have been issued with Mastercard-range numbers (starting with 54 or 55) and are processed as Mastercard. A checkout that hard-codes a 16-digit length, or treats every number starting with 3 as American Express, will reject or mislabel these cards.
The security code is three digits on the back, and the last digit of the card number is a Luhn check digit like every other brand. Because Diners runs on the Discover network, many US payment processors return “Discover” as the card brand for a Diners number. Your brand detection may need to accept both.
Use the generator above to create 14-digit Diners numbers in bulk, then check that your form accepts the length, formats it as 4-6-4 and shows the right logo. For a gateway sandbox, use the gateway’s own Diners test card: Stripe documents 3056 9300 0902 0004 and the 14-digit 3622 720627 1667, Braintree 3625 960000 0004, and Adyen 3600 666633 3344 (expiry 03/2030, CVC 737).

How to test Diners Club payments safely
- Generate a batch of Diners Club numbers above and paste them into your form to confirm brand detection, length and formatting.
- Change one digit of a generated number — your form should now reject it, because the Luhn check fails. You can confirm why with the validator.
- Switch your payment provider to sandbox / test mode and use its documented test cards for authorization, decline and 3-D Secure scenarios.
- Never use real customer card numbers in development or staging environments.
