Apple Pay test cards don’t work with a normal Apple Account. You need an App Store Connect sandbox tester: create one under Users and Access › Sandbox › Testers, sign out of your Apple Account on the test device and sign back in with the tester. Then open Wallet, tap Add Credit or Debit Card and type in a card from the tables below. The device region must be a country where Apple Pay is supported.
The sandbox supports Australia, Canada, China mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. American Express test cards only work with the device region set to the UK or the US, and if you are asked for a one-time password, Apple says to enter 111111.
These numbers are FPANs (funding card numbers). At checkout, Wallet sends a device token (DPAN) and a cryptogram instead of the card number, so the real test is whether your payment provider decrypts the sandbox payment data. Sandbox transactions are declined before fulfilment because the test key doesn’t match your production key. In production only real cards work, so finish with a small real payment and a refund.
China mainland: UnionPay test cards
The device region must be China mainland. Enter OTP 123456 while adding the card; payments may ask for PIN 939393. Debit cards need no CVV or expiry. The credit cards start with 622221, inside the 622126–622925 range shared with Discover, so generic brand detection may label them Discover. Apple Pay on the web in China mainland works only in Safari on iOS 11.2 or later.

Point-of-sale terminal tests
For offline “beep” tests of terminals, after the network’s contactless certification. They don’t replace that certification.

Testing Apple Pay payments step by step
- Create a sandbox tester in App Store Connect and sign in with it on the test iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
- Add a test card from the table to Wallet with manual entry.
- For the web, register and verify your merchant domain and serve the payment page over HTTPS with TLS 1.2.
- Pay in your app or on your site and confirm that your provider decrypts the payment token.
- Repeat with one card per network you accept, then check once in production with a real card.
Common errors and fixes
- Card can’t be added to Wallet
- Sign in with a sandbox tester, not your own Apple Account, and set the device region to a supported country — the UK or US for American Express.
- Payment declines in the sandbox
- Expected before fulfilment: the sandbox key doesn’t match your production key. Check that the token decrypts.
- Test card rejected in production
- Test cards only work in the sandbox. Use a real card in production.

Can I add Stripe or Adyen test cards to Apple Wallet?
No. Wallet only accepts Apple’s sandbox cards in the sandbox. Many payment providers let you pay with Apple Pay in their own test mode without charging the card — check your provider’s documentation.
Which devices can I test Apple Pay on?
Apple lists iPhone 6 or later, iPad mini 3 or later, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro and Apple Watch.
Can I use these test cards on another gateway?
Usually not. Each gateway only recognises its own documented test numbers in its own sandbox. Some numbers, such as 4111 1111 1111 1111, appear in several lists, but the results they trigger differ. For format-only testing on your own forms, use our card generator.
