Fictional test data. Street names and house numbers are assembled at random from generic words; cities, regions and postcode formats are real so validation behaves realistically. Any match with a real address or person is coincidental.
The City of Los Angeles is not addressed as one place. Large parts of it have their own postal city names: an address in the San Fernando Valley reads Van Nuys, CA 91406, North Hollywood, CA 91601 or Encino, CA 91316, even though it is inside Los Angeles city limits. The reverse happens too: unincorporated East Los Angeles uses “Los Angeles” as its postal name although it is not part of the city. Next door, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena and Inglewood are separate cities with separate taxes.
So the city on a California address tells you where the mail goes, not which government applies. Test that your tax, delivery-zone and service-area logic uses the ZIP code (better: ZIP+4 or coordinates) instead of string-matching the city name. The generator mixes Los Angeles with its postal-name neighbourhoods and the neighbouring cities.
Street names such as Avenida del Sol, Camino Real, Calle de la Paz or Via Verde put the street type before the name, so there is no suffix at the end of the line. Normalisers that expect “number, name, suffix” mangle them, and long ones overflow narrow label fields. A city name can carry a tilde as well — La Cañada Flintridge — which the USPS writes without it as La Canada Flintridge. About one generated California address in five uses a Spanish-style street name.
California ZIP codes run from 90001 in Los Angeles to 96162 near Truckee. The first three digits roughly follow the coast north: 900–918 for the Los Angeles area, 919–921 for San Diego, 926–928 for Orange County, 937 for Fresno, 941 for San Francisco, 951 for San Jose and 958 for Sacramento. All 60 prefixes in use, with their main place, are listed below.
No state has more area codes than California. Los Angeles alone spans 213, 323 and 738 downtown and in central LA, 310/424 on the Westside, 818/747 in the Valley and 626 in the San Gabriel Valley. San Francisco is 415/628, Oakland 510/341, San Jose 408/669, San Diego 619/858 and Sacramento 916/279. Generated phone numbers use an area code of the generated city and the fictional 555-01xx block.
State rate: 7.25%. California has the highest statewide base sales tax rate in the country, 7.25%, and district taxes on top of it push the combined rate above 10% in many cities. Because district boundaries do not follow postal city names or even ZIP codes, a California address is the classic case for testing rate lookup by exact location rather than by city.
The generator picks one of these 27 places, then one of its real ZIP codes and one of its area codes. California has 2,593 ZIP codes in 1,239 places in the data we use.

The first three digits of a ZIP code identify the sectional center facility that sorts its mail. California uses 60 prefixes; each is shown with the place that has most of its ZIP codes and how many codes it holds.

Phone numbers in generated addresses always use 555-0100 to 555-0199, the block the North American Numbering Plan reserves for fiction, so they never ring a real line.
Checked October 2026. Street names and house numbers in the generator are synthetic. General US address format, ZIP code structure and form-testing tips are on the US address generator page; ZIP codes on their own come from the ZIP code generator.

Van Nuys is a neighbourhood of the City of Los Angeles with its own post office name. The USPS prefers Van Nuys, CA for its ZIP codes (914xx), and many address verifiers will change “Los Angeles” to it.
From 90001 to 96162. Not every number in that range is assigned; the table below shows the 60 three-digit prefixes in use and how many ZIP codes each has.
415 or its overlay 628, for example (415) 555-0123. Only 555-0100 to 555-0199 is reserved for fiction; other 555 numbers can be real.
Not for mail, but tax engines and some government forms ask for it. The city table below gives the county for each city the generator uses; Los Angeles, Pasadena, Burbank and Long Beach are all in Los Angeles County.
