Local card networks in United States
Besides the international networks, the United States has its own card scheme. Local networks matter for testing because their numbers often use prefixes that a Visa/Mastercard-only form rejects or labels wrongly.

Payment testing notes for the United States
- Currency: USD (US dollar). Most gateway APIs expect amounts in the smallest unit, for example 1050 for 10.50.
- Card country: fraud rules often compare the BIN country (US) with the shopper's IP address and billing address. Generate numbers with a BIN from the United States to test the domestic path, and with a foreign BIN to test cross-border rules.
- Debit vs credit: 38% of the BINs from the United States are debit ranges. If your checkout treats debit differently (fees, installments, recurring billing), test with a BIN of each type from the table above.
- Address Verification (AVS) compares the billing ZIP code and street number with the issuer's records, so test forms with both 5-digit and ZIP+4 codes.
- American Express and Discover are US-based networks; US checkouts normally accept them next to Visa and Mastercard.
Generated numbers only pass format checks: network prefix, length and the Luhn checksum. They are not issued by any bank in the United States, carry no money and are declined by every real payment system — use them for forms, validation and BIN rules, and switch to your gateway's documented test cards for approvals and declines.

Frequently asked questions
Can I generate a United States credit card number for testing?
Yes. The generator on this page starts every number with a real BIN registered to a bank in the United States — by default 510255 (Fiserv Solutions, LLC, Mastercard debit). The remaining digits are random and the last one is a Luhn check digit. No bank issued the number, so it carries no account and real payments with it are declined.
Which card networks are most common in United States?
By BIN count in our data: Visa 33%, Diners Club 19%, Mastercard 11%, EBT 11%. Local networks: Discover (14,629 BINs). Debit ranges make up 39% and credit ranges 61%.
Which BINs do Visa cards from the United States start with?
Examples from different banks: 405957 (Bank of America, National Association); 401135 (JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A.); 401671 (Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.); 403902 (Card Services for Credit Unions). See the United States BIN list for every bank.
Which currency should I use to test payments from United States?
USD (US dollar). Gateway APIs usually expect amounts in the smallest unit (for example 1050 for 10.50). A card from any country can pay in any currency the merchant supports; the issuer handles conversion.
Will these numbers pass a payment gateway?
They pass format checks — length, network prefix and the Luhn checksum — so they are ideal for testing form validation and BIN-based rules. Gateways in test mode want their own documented test cards for approvals and declines; in live mode every generated number is declined because no bank has issued it.
