India Address Generator

Create fictional Indian addresses in the India Post layout — flat or house number, building, road, locality, city with a 6-digit PIN code and state — for test fixtures, demos and form testing.

Fictional test data. Street names and house numbers are assembled at random from generic words; cities, regions and postcode formats are real so validation behaves realistically. Any match with a real address or person is coincidental.

How an Indian address is written

Indian addresses run from the most specific detail to the most general, and they are often longer than Western forms expect. A typical layout is: flat or house number and building name (Flat 304, Gulmohar Residency), road or cross street (4th Cross Road), locality or area (Koramangala), city with the PIN code (Bengaluru - 560034), then the state. India Post asks for the PIN code on every item and recommends writing it last on the city line.

Landmarks are part of everyday addressing: Near Bus Stand or Opp. Temple Road are normal in an address line, and delivery partners rely on them. A form with only one 35-character street field will truncate real addresses — give users two address lines and a separate locality or landmark field.

PIN code structure

The Postal Index Number has six digits and never starts with 0.

Validate with ^[1-9]\d{5}$. Users often type a space after three digits (560 034), so strip spaces before checking. A valid-looking PIN is not proof that the post office exists; India Post publishes the official directory if you need a lookup.

States and union territories

India has 28 states and 8 union territories. The state name is normally written in full on the last line, although two-letter codes (MH, KA, DL) are common in databases and on vehicle plates. Keep the list current: Telangana was created in 2014, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh became union territories in 2019, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu were merged in 2020. A hard-coded list from an old library may still show the previous names.

Testing tips for Indian address forms

Building an Indian test data set

Generate addresses from several postal regions at once: Delhi and Chandigarh (1), Mumbai and Pune (4), Bengaluru and Hyderabad (5), Chennai and Kochi (6), Kolkata and Guwahati (7), and Patna (8). That mix exercises long locality names, landmark lines, union territories and states with recently changed codes. Leave the phone field empty in your fixtures or use a clearly invalid placeholder agreed with your team, rather than a random 10-digit mobile number that could belong to a real person.

What makes these addresses fictional

Cities, localities, states and PIN prefixes are real; flat numbers, building names and road names are assembled from generic words and random numbers. Any match with a real building is a coincidence. Use the data only for testing and development.

Validation pattern used for the PIN code: ^[1-9]\d{5}$. It checks the format only — whether a code is actually in use is known only to the postal operator.

Phone numbers in India test data

Indian mobile numbers have 10 digits starting with 6, 7, 8 or 9 (+91 internationally). No officially reserved fictional range is published that we know of, so the generator leaves the phone blank rather than invent numbers that could belong to someone.

Sources

Postcode ranges, region lists and address conventions checked against these sources in October 2026. Street names in the generator are synthetic.

Frequently asked questions

How many digits is an Indian PIN code?

Six, and the first digit is never 0 — for example 560034 in Bengaluru or 400053 in Mumbai. The first digit shows the postal region and the first three the sorting district.

What is the correct format of an address in India?

House or flat number and building, road, locality or landmark, then City - PIN and the state, each on its own line. India Post asks for the PIN code on every item.

Does the generator create Indian phone numbers?

No. India has no published range of fictional numbers that we know of, so any realistic 10-digit mobile number could belong to someone. The phone field stays blank for India.

Is this a real address in India?

No. The city, state or union territory and postcode format are real, but the street and house number are random. Use the addresses for testing forms, databases and shipping-rate logic, never to send mail or goods.
