How a Mexican address is written
A Mexican address starts with the street and the número exterior (the building number on the street): Calle Los Laureles 245. If the building has several units, the número interior follows, usually as Int. 3, Depto. 12 or Local 5. The next line is the colonia, written with the abbreviation Col., then the código postal followed by the city or municipality and the state: 03100 Ciudad de México, CDMX. In Mexico City the borough (alcaldía) takes the place of the municipality, for example 03100 Benito Juárez, Ciudad de México; the generator does the same.
Couriers also like an entre calles reference (“between Calle X and Calle Y”) and a short landmark. In newer housing developments (fraccionamientos) and many informal settlements, homes are identified by block and lot instead of a street number: Mz. 14 Lt. 7 (manzana, lote). A street number may also be S/N (sin número), so the number field must accept text.
Código postal structure
Mexican postal codes have five digits and were introduced by the postal service (now Correos de México, formerly SEPOMEX) in 1981. The first two digits identify the state or a part of it: Mexico City uses 01–16, Estado de México 50–57, Jalisco 44–49, Nuevo León 64–67, Yucatán 97. The remaining digits point to a colonia or group of colonias. A single código postal can cover several colonias, and a large colonia can have more than one code.
Because of that, many Mexican forms ask for the CP first and then offer a list of colonias for it, using the public postal code catalogue. Codes in Mexico City start with zero (06700 for Roma Norte), so never store them as numbers. The generator keeps each code inside the right range for the selected city, but the exact value is random.
States, abbreviations and the “México” trap
Mexico has 31 states and Mexico City (Ciudad de México), which stopped being the “Distrito Federal” in 2016. Official ISO codes are three letters (CMX, JAL, NLE), but people write informal abbreviations: CDMX, Jal., N.L., Edo. Méx. Store the full state name or a code from a fixed list rather than free text.
Watch the word “México”: it can mean the country, the state of México (which surrounds the capital) or Mexico City. A form that writes only “México” in the state field leaves the address ambiguous, which is why the generator uses “Estado de México” for the state.
Validation and testing tips
- Validate the CP with
^\d{5}$and keep it as text. - Test colonia names with accents, ñ and spaces (
Ladrón de Guevara,Jardines de la Asunción) and long values. - Accept
S/Nand alphanumeric numbers such as120-B. - Allow the interior number to be empty; most houses have none.
- If you autofill colonias from the CP, test a code that returns several colonias and one that returns none.
What is not generated
Mexican forms sometimes ask for a CURP or RFC. This tool does not produce them, because they are personal identifiers. Street names are built from generic words, so any match with a real address is a coincidence.
States of Mexico
The generator uses the 32 first-level states below, with the codes used in addresses. Cities are picked from 21 places spread across the country, each with postcodes from its own range.

Validation pattern used for the Código postal: ^\d{5}$. It checks the format only — whether a code is actually in use is known only to the postal operator.
Phone numbers in Mexico test data
Mexico moved to 10-digit national numbers in 2019–2020, written +52 followed by the area code and number, for example +52 55 XXXX XXXX in Mexico City. We know of no officially reserved fictional range for Mexico, so the generator leaves the phone field blank rather than inventing numbers that may be in use.

Frequently asked questions
What is a colonia in a Mexican address?
A colonia is a neighbourhood. It is a required part of most addresses, written after the street line with the abbreviation Col., and each one belongs to a código postal.
How many digits does a Mexican postal code have?
Five. The first two identify the state or region, for example 01–16 for Mexico City and 44–49 for Jalisco.
What do Int. and Mz. Lt. mean?
Int. is the interior number (apartment or unit). Mz. and Lt. are manzana and lote — block and lot — used where houses have no street number.
Is this a real address in Mexico?
No. The city, state and postcode format are real, but the street and house number are random. Use the addresses for testing forms, databases and shipping-rate logic, never to send mail or goods.
