Italy Address Generator

Create fictional Italian addresses in the Poste Italiane layout — via and civic number, then CAP, comune and two-letter province code — with CAP values from the real range of each city.

Fictional test data. Street names and house numbers are assembled at random from generic words; cities, regions and postcode formats are real so validation behaves realistically. Any match with a real address or person is coincidental.

How an Italian address is written

Poste Italiane’s layout puts the street first with the civic number after the name, usually separated by a comma: Via dei Tigli, 14. The last line contains the five-digit CAP, the comune and the two-letter province code (sigla): 40125 Bologna BO. Apartment details — staircase (Scala B) and flat number (Interno 7 or int. 7) — go on their own line or after the civic number. In smaller places a frazione (hamlet) name may appear on a line above the CAP line.

The street type is part of the name and is normally written in full: Via, Viale, Piazza, Corso, Largo, Vicolo. Civic numbers can carry a slash or letter (14/B), and Genoa and Florence use separate red numbering for shops (14r).

CAP structure

The Codice di Avviamento Postale has five digits. The first two identify the province area and the third the distribution type: in a provincial capital the CAP usually ends in 100 (85100 Potenza), and larger cities have one code per zone (00118–00199 for Rome, 20121–20162 for Milan). Smaller comuni each have their own CAP, so a comune and its CAP are close to one-to-one outside the big cities.

Regions and province codes

Italy has 20 regions, five of them with special autonomy (Sicilia, Sardegna, Valle d’Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia). Regions are not written on addresses; the province sigla is. The siglas are two letters, often the first letters of the capital (MI Milano, TO Torino, RM Roma), and a province drop-down needs a little over 100 entries. Italian also has accents and apostrophes in place names (L'Aquila, Forlì, Valle d'Aosta) that must be stored correctly.

Testing tips for Italian address forms

What makes these addresses fictional

Comuni, province siglas, regions and CAP ranges are real; street names are built from generic words (trees, flowers, Fontana, Mulino) with random civic numbers, so any match with a real address is coincidental. Use the data only in test and development systems.

Regions of Italy

The generator uses the 20 first-level regions below, with the codes used in addresses. Cities are picked from 23 places spread across the country, each with postcodes from its own range.

Validation pattern used for the CAP: ^\d{5}$. It checks the format only — whether a code is actually in use is known only to the postal operator.

Phone numbers in Italy test data

Italian landlines start with 0 and keep it after +39 (06 for Rome, 02 for Milan); mobiles start with 3. No official fictional range is published that we know of, so the generator leaves the phone blank rather than invent numbers that could belong to someone.

Frequently asked questions

What is the format of an Italian address?

Street type, name and civic number (Via dei Tigli, 14), then CAP, comune and province code on the last line (40125 Bologna BO).

What is a CAP in Italy?

The Codice di Avviamento Postale, Italy’s five-digit postcode. Provincial capitals typically end in 100 or have one code per city zone, for example 00185 in Rome.

Does the generator create Italian phone numbers?

No. We know of no officially reserved fictional range in Italy, so the phone field stays blank instead of producing numbers that might be in use.

Is this a real address in Italy?

No. The city, regione and postcode format are real, but the street and house number are random. Use the addresses for testing forms, databases and shipping-rate logic, never to send mail or goods.
