How an Indonesian address is written
Indonesian addresses run from the house to the province. The street line uses Jl. (jalan, road) or Gg. (gang, a narrow lane) with the house number after No.: Jl. Melati No. 27. In housing estates the line names the estate (Perum, perumahan), block and number instead: Perum Griya Asri Blok C No. 12. Next comes the neighbourhood unit RT/RW (rukun tetangga and rukun warga), then the kelurahan or desa (urban or rural village), the kecamatan (district, Kec.), the city (kota) or regency (kabupaten), the province and the kode pos.
RT and RW are often written with leading zeros (RT 003/RW 005) and sometimes as just 003/005. The generator writes them without padding; test both forms if you parse them.
Kode pos structure
Indonesian postcodes have five digits and are managed by Pos Indonesia. The first digit indicates a broad region (1 for Jakarta and its surroundings, 2 for Aceh, North and West Sumatra and Riau, 3 for southern Sumatra, 4 for most of West Java and Banten, 5 for Central Java and Yogyakarta, 6 for East Java, 7 for Kalimantan, 8 for Bali and Nusa Tenggara, 9 for Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua), and the rest narrow it down to a city, kecamatan and finally a kelurahan or desa. Each village has its own code, so two neighbours on either side of a village boundary can have different codes. Jakarta codes run from 10xxx to 14xxx.
Provinces, cities and regencies
Indonesia has 38 provinces since four new provinces were created in Papua in 2022. Below the province, a kota (city) and a kabupaten (regency) are separate units and can share a name — Kota Bandung and Kabupaten Bandung are different places with different codes. Forms that only ask for a city name lose that distinction; e-commerce sites in Indonesia usually cascade province → kota/kabupaten → kecamatan → kelurahan.
Jakarta is written DKI Jakarta (Daerah Khusus Ibukota) in most current data, and it is split into five administrative cities (Jakarta Pusat, Utara, Barat, Selatan and Timur) plus the Thousand Islands regency.
Testing tips
- Many Indonesians have a single name. Make the last-name field optional and test a user with one name only.
- Allow long addresses: with RT/RW, kelurahan and kecamatan, five or six lines are normal.
- Validate the kode pos with
^\d{5}$. - Test district names with Roman numerals and spaces, such as
Ilir Timur I. - Accept
Jl.,Jln.andJalanas the same thing when matching addresses.
Using the data in fixtures
Seed staging with addresses from several islands, not just Jakarta, and run them through checkout and label printing. Long addresses with RT/RW and district names are a good test for truncated columns and label layouts.
What is not generated
The tool does not generate NIK (national identity) numbers or other identifiers. Street names are built from generic words such as flowers, fruit and birds, so the full addresses are fictional; districts and postcode ranges are real.
Provinces of Indonesia
The generator uses the 38 first-level provinces below, with the codes used in addresses. Cities are picked from 21 places spread across the country, each with postcodes from its own range.

Validation pattern used for the Kode pos: ^\d{5}$. It checks the format only — whether a code is actually in use is known only to the postal operator.
Phone numbers in Indonesia test data
Indonesian mobile numbers start with 08 domestically (0812-XXXX-XXXX) and +62 8 internationally, with 10 to 13 digits in total. We know of no officially reserved fictional range for Indonesia, so the generator leaves the phone field blank rather than inventing numbers that could belong to someone.

Postcode ranges, region lists and address conventions checked against these sources in October 2026. Street names in the generator are synthetic.

Frequently asked questions
What do RT and RW mean in an Indonesian address?
Rukun tetangga and rukun warga — neighbourhood and community units. They are written together, for example RT 003/RW 005, after the street line.
How many digits does an Indonesian postcode have?
Five. Each kelurahan or desa has its own code; Jakarta codes start with 10 to 14.
What is the difference between Jl. and Gg.?
Jl. (jalan) is a road or street; Gg. (gang) is a small lane or alley, usually branching off a jalan.
Is this a real address in Indonesia?
No. The city, province and postcode format are real, but the street and house number are random. Use the addresses for testing forms, databases and shipping-rate logic, never to send mail or goods.
